French director – Céline Sciamma made an exceptional auteur drama named Tomboy which is describe as an glorious artistic film in 2011.
Tomboy tells us the story of Laure (Zoé Héran) the main character of the movies. Laure appears as a boy to her new group of friends at her new living space – apartment complex. Lisa (Jeanne Disson), a neibourhood girl, thinks that Mikäel ( Laure introduced herself that) is a boy when they play together during the sunny summer. Lisa likes Laure and give her a kiss. The truth that Laure is a girl is revealed by her mother decision of forcing Laure wearing dress after her fight with another boy. Lisa can’t accept that truth and run off without saying anything.
However, she stands to protect Laure when other boys want to check if Laure is really a girl ( by checking Laure herself). Later, they talk to each other after a longtime Laure not going outside. The final scene, Laure smile, defines that there is still a friendship between them. This drama opens the optimistic point of view about transgender in particular and LGBT in generally. Worth watching!
